I am on the fence about whether to get rid of Hurley or not. The part that wants him gone is the long-term thinker that sees so many flaws in his coaching. Anyone who was satisfied the last three years should definitely want to keep him. Bobby Hurley's name and coaching style will attract talented players here and so being a bubble team most years is a good probability. The problem is I also think that is the ceiling for a Bobby Hurley coached team. I just don' think he is good enough as a teacher of the game or even more so as a in-game coach to ever elevate us any further than that. I want to be wrong, but I just don't see it.
As for who to bring in, it's not like we are likely to attract a proven head coach. But Hurley was not a proven head coach when we got him. I would take a guy with a proven track record from a mid-major program. Guys like Craig Smith (Utah State) and Niko Medved (Colorado State) come to mind. I would rather watch a less talented but more disciplined team hang around the NCAA bubble than a super talented underachieving one.
: I never post on this site but have followed it for years. I just had to vent a little. I agree that this year, the basketball team has been a huge disappointment. I has high hopes and I know itís not over yet. On that note, I think any mention of Hurley being on the hot seat is a joke. Who would we bring in? We, unfortunately, are not an attractive basketball school. We have seen some of the best recruiting we have seen in a long time. Yes, not happy with this season, but I just feel we need to ride this out and see what happens. Itís not like we have elite coaches just dying to come here.
: On another note, thanks to all of you with your great posts. I have enjoyed this site for years. I hope you all are having a healthy abs safe new year.
