Native arizonan of 40+ years. Spent plenty of time out doors in the mountains and deserts. I've seen bison, elk, deer, javalina, bobcats, antelope, coyotes, bears, even a Gila Monster, etc, etc.
But never, in all my life, have I seen an uncaged fox. I didn't even know we had them in Az.
